Tantamunay

Our Story began with an Inquiry as to how be of service to the Trees of the Amazon, The Lungs Of the Earth.

This brought us to the Shipibo People of the Jungle and the Sacred Plant Medicine Ayahuasca and a curiosity of how to support their cultural heritage…

Tantamunay stand in service of Tribal Cultures, to be as a hummingbird and humbly do our part to protect the Tribal Way of life from the impacts of an ever changing world. We do so in partnership with the Tribes and work at a grass roots level to tackle holistically the impact of the modern world upon these original peoples of our shared earth. Everything we do is done in partnership with the Tribes utilizing their way of coming to agreements and solutions about community issues, with clear communication, time, love and laughter.

Everything is interconnected and we stand in service of this interconnection between the lands and the peoples, the peoples and their villages, the tribal life and the passing of culture, the villages and their elders, the elders and Sacred Plant Medicines, the Sacred Plant Medicines and the Global Collective.

Our Shop

We are connected to many communities along the Ucayali River and use the boat system to bring sustainable work to Shipibo Women living in the 56 Shipibo Communities. We serve as a bridge of access to a Global Marketplace for the woven Ayahuasca visions to all the Koshi Ainbo (strong Shipibo women) to empower women to support women to stay in circles, to stay in tribe and continue to do the work culturally appropriate for Shipibo Women to do.

By bringing work directly to the homes of the women we serve to reduce the need to leave their ancestral lands in search of a marketplace for their Embroidered Ayahuasca Visions Artwork

We apply Tribal Wisdom to everything we do, decisions are made in face to face circles. we journey to many communities in the hope that we may play are part in the cultural sustainability of this beautiful medicine culture who have served us all so much.

Our clothing is all hand-made with traditional Shipibo embroideries; and the makers of these clothes are wonderful and empowered women from the Jungles of the Amazon.

By supporting these products, you are also supporting keeping Tribal Wisdom and Ancient Ways alive in our lives here, today.

This offering is an opportunity for us collectively to give back to the Shipibo-konibo Ancestral Medicine Lineages and the Shipibo Village that has helped us all so much.

Our Community

Recent Global Shifts and The Shipibo

Recent Global Changes have affected communities Worldwide as we are all aware, it has affected income, mental health, families, health, wellbeing, communities and education to name but a few. For the Shipibo the impact of restricted movement has further affected their way of life, as their ability to sell their beautiful handwoven Artisanal crafts in the usual way during and post this global shift has proven more difficult.

Tantamunay‘s initial response to support the Shipibo sell their crafts was initially assisting them to bring their work to a wider marketplace, whilst staying in their tribal life and villages. We have worked over these years to bring work directly to the door of each Shipibo hut to enable the Shipibo women who work with us to have a sustainable income from doing what they know and love, which is to sew, without the need to leave the Tribal group and their children in order to find ways to access this income.

Global changes call for us to extend our work even further, to reach more communities and families. If you wish to assist in our support of the Shipibo please visit our shop or make a donation.

The Shipibo Education Dream

The Shipibo Tribe historically pass information through an oral tradition. All of their wisdom is passed from generation to generation through the sharing of stories and the direct passing of knowledge through active demonstration on such things as weaving, pot making, fishing, building houses etc.

Shipibo culture still holds their connection to mythology and the wisdom of passing information about their culture, way of life and cultural beliefs through the sharing of such stories. Tantamunay have spent time in the deep jungle with the Shipibo and watched how the Shipibo are able to ‘read the frequency of the jungle’. To the Western mind it is truly wonderous to behold, It was a strong reminder to me personally of what we have lost within the Western mindset, an ability to take cues from the environment, to listen to the frequencies of our environment coming in and to be mindful of them.
